Photo Archiving & Post-Production

A body of work is more than a folder of files. It is a way of seeing.

Photo editing: choosing what to show

Editing, the selection and sequencing of images, is a craft of its own. We offer a fresh and honest eye: which photographs carry the project, which weaken it, how a series can breathe. It matters most before a book, an exhibition, a portfolio or a submission.Archiving, analog and digital

Negatives, vintage prints and contact sheets deserve gloves, dedicated sleeves and a precise record of what they are. Digital files deserve the same respect: a clear and consistent naming system, credits, captions and keywords embedded in each file, lossless master files, and several copies kept on different media, one of them off site. Digital photo archiving is not glamorous work, but it is what allows an image to be found, understood and printed twenty years from now.

Looking after an estate or a collection

For photographers' families, estates and collectors, the question is rarely technical. It is: what do we have, what matters most, and how do we pass it on? We help you take stock of a photographic estate, organize it so that the creative approach remains readable, and plan its preservation, digitization and, in time, its printing and sharing. No important image should ever be lost.

Our way of working

One conversation, one point of contact, honest advice. We tell you what we think, including when it is not what you hoped to hear, because our role is to accompany you with clarity, not to flatter. Post-production and consulting are billed by the hour, and we tell you from the first exchange what to expect.

Atelier Pigment helps photographers, families, estates, and institutions look after their images: refining them, organizing them, and preserving them for the long term. Whether you need a handful of photographs prepared for print or a lifetime of work put in order, we begin the same way, by understanding what the images are meant to say.

Post-production in service of the image

For us, retouching is an act of interpretation, never of imposition. We listen first to the atmosphere you want, the emotion, and the choices you have already made. Then we translate them technically (color, density, fine detail) with the same attention on a single photograph or an entire series. Photo retouching, done well, goes unnoticed. If a change seems to us to alter the meaning of a work, especially one already published or sold, we say so openly. The decision is always yours.
