Paris is where photography has been debated, archived, and reinvented for nearly two centuries. For one week each November, it is also where the market gathers: Paris Photo draws the galleries, specialists, and collectors who define the field's current direction.
This masterclass places you inside that week. Not just as a visitor to the fair, but with private access to the institutions, studios, and conversations that sit behind it.
Not a Course. Not a Lecture. A Week of Encounters.
Most photography workshops is built around instruction: someone tells you what to think. This week is built around share and access: you will meet and sit with the people who make the decisions, and you will form your own judgment in conversation with them.
That means private time with institution directors, not public tours. Studio visits with working photographers, not artist talks to a full room. A market specialist speaking candidly about pricing and value, not a panel discussion. And three days inside Paris Photo with people whose job is to help you read what you're seeing.
The difference is proximity. Ten participants means every conversation will include you directly.

During the program, you will take part in a series of carefully curated experiences, including:
Structuring your Collection
A seasoned collector addresses how collections gain coherence over time: avoiding accumulation; knowing when to trust your eye versus seeking advice; and, mostly and above all, how a photography collection is first and foremost an encounter between you, the artwork, and its author.
Reading a Print & Preserving a Collection
A conservation specialist walks you through materials, processes, conservation techniques, and what separates a significant print from a mediocre one. You leave knowing what you're looking at when you hold a photograph.
The Market
Direct conversations with a private sales specialist in Contemporary Art and Photography for a clearer understanding of galleries, auctions, private transactions, editions, rarity, and value. The conversation most collectors wish they'd had before they started.
Private institutional & Gallery Visits
Small-group access to HCB Foundation, MEP, Jeu de Paume, Le Bal, and the most influential galleries in Paris, with the directors and curators who run them.
Studio Encounters
Time inside working photographers' studios. Intimate conversations about process and intention, with the artists.
Paris Photo, with Expert Guidance
Three days at the world's leading photography fair with VIP access, with visits with guidance on reading positioning, evaluating galleries, and approaching acquisition decisions.

Who Am I
I am Albin Millot, a French photographer born and residing in Paris and the founder of Atelier Pigment, a digital fine art printing studio. For over two decades, I have dedicated my life to the art of photography, not only as a creator but also through significant collaborations with some of the most renowned photographers, curators, and institutions in Paris.
I have had the honor of working alongside luminaries such as Harry Gruyaert, Martine Franck, Bruno Barbey, Patrick Zachmann, and Thomas Dworzak, who are associated with the illustrious Magnum Photos agency. Additionally, I have collaborated with prestigious institutions including the Centre Pompidou, UNESCO, FoMU Antwerp, Hermès, Yves Saint Laurent, and the Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York.
Paris transcends being my home; it is the city where photography has been shaped, debated, and redefined for nearly two centuries. It is a vibrant hub of archives, salons, festivals, and galleries, and understanding its intricate fabric grants access not only to its exhibitions but also to the influential individuals and pivotal decisions that shape them.
The "Collector Journey" masterclass draws on these prestigious networks and this specialized expertise. For a select group of participants, this means gaining access to places usually reserved for insiders, exchanging ideas with curators and directors who shape the photographic landscape, and leaving with a deep understanding of the photographic ecosystem in the broadest sense and more specifically in the field of photographic collecting.

Three days inside the fair with VIP access: the VIP opening night with a guided visit with Sophie Gonzales, which will present the organisation of the fair and teach you to look at artwork like an art buyer; guided visits to the main, Voices, and Digital sectors with Jonas Tebib; and independent viewing time. All geared toward reading positioning, evaluating galleries, and thinking through acquisition decisions.

A private sales specialist in contemporary art and photography will cover galleries, auctions, private transactions, editions, rarity, and value in a direct conversation.

The masterclass is limited to 10 participants, mainly for the comfort of everyone and the quality of the encounters: at that size, every conversation includes you directly.

The regular price is €4,200. An Early Bird price of €3,500 applies if the deposit and full balance are paid before 30 September 2026. Registration requires a €1,500 deposit, with the remaining balance due at least 30 days before the start date.

More than 30 days before the start, a €200 admin fee is retained, and the remaining €1,300 of your deposit is refunded. Between 15 and 30 days before, €800 is retained, and €700 is refunded. Less than 14 days before, the full €1,500 deposit is forfeited. You can also request a transfer to a future edition or nominate a substitute instead.

The trip requires a minimum of 5 participants to run. If Atelier Pigment decides not to go ahead, all tuition paid is refunded (though travel, accommodation, and other related expenses are not, and no further compensation can be claimed).

Yes. The week includes "Studio Encounters": time inside working photographers' studios with candid conversation about process and intention. The schedule includes a discussion with Harry Gruyaert and a private visit to Maxime Riché's studio.

No, prior collecting experience isn't required. The masterclass is open to both those considering starting a collection and those who already collect.

This masterclass is not a course or a lecture. It's built around access: private time with institution directors instead of public tours, studio visits instead of artist talks to a full room, and candid conversations about the market instead of panel discussions.
